just saying hi

July 5, 2007

it has been a few days since any new and meaningful posts. the new feature set has taken a bit longer than expected and we apologize.

in the process of creating the editor to allow others to cut their own slapstrips, we realized a deeper change to the backend could result in far more scalable interactivity that also relates well to a new video viewing environment that we’re developing.

oops

Just noticed a bug in the RSS feed.  Fixed it – sorry for the stupid mistake!

Hope everyone is having a safe weekend.

fun things

June 28, 2007

Looking at the logs, we’re getting some really good viewership, and actually getting some really strong viral growth after the burst of media hype has died down.

Both viewership and registration is surging, and that’s awesome. Thanks to everyone out there for the load of interest and the fact that you’re coming back.

We’re also making significant P2P headway and updating some things we will want to engage the beta testers for very soon.

We’re working on a few fun things right now to make the site more interactive and fun. We are exploring content partnerships, and will be beginning the ‘create your own’ editor beta testing within a day or two.

We have a ton of ideas to make the site better, so hang in there!

techcrunch article

June 25, 2007

We were fortunate enough to get a really nice techcrunch article today. You can see it here:

http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/06/25/slapvid-peer-to-peer-video-in-your-browser/

We’re getting a lot of helpful feedback, both good and bad, so thanks to everyone out there offering an opinion.

Stay tuned for more SlapVid functionality as well as techcrunch beta accounts for all that signed up.

fbook app is out

June 20, 2007

sent to a small private list of fbook users, the app is under testing and is looking good. right now we just have the basic top 25 applet that streams what’s on the front page of slapvid.com but in a smaller format to look nice on facebook.

more to come on this with some social features when it has been built out a bit more…

Wow, long radio silence

June 19, 2007

We’ve been working so hard we realized the blog hadn’t been hit in a long long time. 10 days in fact. Sorry.

Traveling a little bit back to Pittsburgh, linking the P2P delivery system into the videos, tidying up the site, hacking into the core of what makes an flv file and flv file, and lots of other crazy web stuff has taken up our time.

Also the facebook application is up and running. Finally. Full restructuring had to occur because it was a whopping 8 pixels too wide, but you do what you gotta do.

We are constantly finding complex problems to solve and, so far, it’s bee going well. Fun stuff. We will see very soon.

For now, more work…

Every night SlapVid will yank the top 10 most viewed videos and create a SlapStrip! So, the sooner you wake up, the sooner you can preview the top 10 videos across 10 excellent youtube categories! Enjoy.

YouTube changed their embed style today, with a brand new flash player. It seeks for all related videos to the one you just played in the embed. This makes SlapVid all the more powerful.

Now you can preview the overall best videos, watch the ones you like, and immediately get exposed to a boatload of other videos just like it. The utility here is amazing.

Hopefully by tomorrow the primitive V1 of the user-editing flash app are done and users can begin to cut their very own SlapVids. This would be available to the public as soon as early next week.

More to come…

the front-end has met the back-end and we are just getting stuff up and going and actually working. although bob wants to go to bed, we’re not doing so until we get something complete up. this is a fact.

should be about another hour or so to pretty some stuff up.

It’s really pretty cool to see things coming together and working. There’s probably about 7 more hours of development to go and our version 1 will be released. This is fun.

It’s Boston day 3 and the first day we’ve all been together. Bob finally made it up here and things are going really well.

Let’s see if we can get this out tonight.
